In the period 1600-1800, Peas were one of the most widely eaten British vegetables. They were most commonly made into Green Pea Soup or, when dried, to create a savoury pease pudding. A staple food for many people, they were imagined as nourishing, nutritive, and neither good nor bad for the consumer’s health.
