New Potatoes Harvested
Hello everyone.
The last couple of weeks have seen a big change in the Polytunnels, previously they contained a lot of the vegetables that we “over wintered” such as Spring Cabbages, Cauliflowers, Broad Beans, Onions.
These “over wintered” vegetables were really successful but we are now coming to the end of their season, so once the vegetables have been harvested we are replacing them with the Summer growing vegetables.
The Polytunnels are now full of Tomatoes, Melons, Peppers, Chilli Peppers. It is amazing the change in the polytunnels and for us it is a real sign of Summer – all we need now is for the sun to come out more and for there to be an increase in temperatures to aid the growing.
One of the vegetables we always put in early in the Polytunnels are New Potatoes. Our favoured New Potato variety is called Casablanca and we put those into the Polytunnels in February. I am delighted to say the crop has been a big success and we are delighted with the first harvest of these New Potatoes – photo above. The Casablanca is a lovely potato, they don’t take much time to boil and we love serving them with Mint and Butter.
All the best.
Ann
